Easylock Parental Controls ("Easylock") is an iPhone app that lets a parent limit the apps on a child's phone and answer the child's requests for more time. It is published by Avram E. Frisch. Easylock is designed to work without accounts, servers of our own, analytics or advertising, and to keep as little information as possible.
Easylock keeps two kinds of information, both of which stay under your control.
Settings such as which apps are limited, the daily limit, lock times, how often a child may ask for more time, the parent PIN (stored only as a salted hash), and the family code are stored on the phone where they were entered. They are never uploaded. Which apps are limited is stored using Apple's Screen Time tokens, which are opaque identifiers that only the child's phone can interpret.
When a child asks for more time, and when a parent answers, Easylock writes a small record to Apple's CloudKit public database under a random family identifier that is part of your family code. Each record contains:
| Field | What it is |
|---|---|
| Family identifier | A random value created when the family was set up. It does not identify a person or an Apple Account. |
| Device identifier | A random value created by Easylock on each phone. It is not the phone's hardware identifier or advertising identifier. |
| Child's first name | Only if a parent typed one during setup, so the parent's phone can say who is asking. |
| Minutes requested or granted, the decision, and a timestamp | The content of the request or answer. |
| Signature | A code that lets the child's phone verify an answer came from a parent in the family. |
These records are deleted automatically about 48 hours after they are created. Records are stored by Apple as part of iCloud and are subject to Apple's privacy policy. We do not operate any server of our own and cannot read these records.
Easylock uses Apple Push Notification service, through iCloud, so a parent's phone learns about a new request and a child's phone learns about an answer. Apple handles delivery. Notification contents are limited to the fact that a request or answer exists.
Easylock uses Apple's Family Controls, Managed Settings and Device Activity frameworks solely to apply the limits a parent has chosen on the child's phone. Information from these frameworks is used only on the device and only for that purpose. It is not transmitted, sold, or used for advertising, and it is not shared with anyone.
Easylock is made for parents. The only information about a child it handles is the optional first name a parent enters and the time requests described above. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children, and the app has no features that ask a child for information about themselves.
If this policy changes, the new version will be posted at this address with an updated date.
